米国ニューヨークで開催された「模擬国連ニューヨーク大会（NMUN・New York 2024）」に本学外国語学部英米学科の学生４名が３月２４日（日）から４泊５日の日程で参加しました。
模擬国連では、実際の国連会議を模した会議に学生が各国の代表として参加し、他大学の学生との議論を通じて国際的な施策を練り上げます。本学からのニューヨーク大会への参加は２０１８年以来６年ぶりです。今回の大会には世界各地の２５０以上の大学が参加し、国連総会をはじめ、１６の国連会議の模擬が一斉に行われました。本学の学生はコモロ連合の代表団として参加し、国連総会第三委員会（GA3）、国連環境計画（UNEP）の２つの会議にチームを組んで参加しました。大会中は、世界各地からの数多くの大学生と英語で国際問題を議論しました。
本学から参加した４名は、英米学科の齊藤教授の呼びかけに応えて、課外活動としての本活動に自主的に参加した意欲的な学生ばかりです。授業の合間を縫ってミーティングを開き、参加準備を進めました。準備活動の際にはカナダのマクユーアン大学（MacEwan University）や台湾の文藻外語大学とのオンラインでの国際交流も行いました。こうした機会を通じて、参加学生は少しずつ自信を高めて大会に臨みました。
ニューヨークでは、大会前後の限られた時間ながら、参加者で独自のスタディ・ツアーを組んで現地を知る機会を持つように努めました。慶應義塾ニューヨーク学院、コロンビア大学、メトロポリタン美術館などを訪れました。訪問先ではニューヨークで生き生きと活躍されている日本の方々にもお会いすることができ、それも大きな刺激になりました。
慣れない外国での滞在であることに加えて、大会中は早朝から夜まで議場に張り付けの毎日でしたが、非常に濃い時間でした。閉会式は国連総会の議場で行われました。まばゆいばかりの金色の空間の中、通常は実際の各国代表団が占める場所の一角に座り、大会を振り返りました。

参加した学生は次のようなコメントを寄せてくれました。
・Since I have not had the opportunity to interact with many foreigners before, I am very happy to have been able to participate in NMUN, where students from around the world attended. At first, I felt a language barrier and had some difficulties, but my fellow committee members helped me many times. My English has improved through my participation in NMUN, and I am more motivated to learn English in the future. (SS)

・First, I would like to thank Dr. Saito for giving me this wonderful experience. I am a fourth-year student, and since this would be the last time I could participate in this program, I was determined to give it my all. However, it was my first time, and things could have gone better. During the event, I could survive the five-day meeting with warm support from my team members and members from other countries. Participating in NMUN was an excellent experience for me. Thank you very much. (HY)

・まず齊藤先生をはじめ、あらゆる場面でたくさんの人の協力があってこのニューヨーク大会に参加することができ感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。大会参加前は大人数の前でスピーチをしたり意見を言ったりすることに苦手意識がありましたが、この大会でたくさん経験を重ね自信を持てるようになりました。大会全体を通して世界を変えるのは私たち一人ひとり、私である、という意識を強く持つことができ、またグローバルな問題解決に向けてこれだけ熱心に取り組む仲間たちがこんなにもいると身をもって感じることができたのは貴重な経験でした。会議以外の時間はみんなでたわいもない話をして仲良くなることができ、日本の文化や食に興味を持ってくれている人も多いと分かり誇らしい気持ちになりました。（YM）

・Joining the NMUN was a life-changing experience. I want to thank you for the opportunity to join NMUN NY and for all the support. During the four months of preparation, I was slightly nervous because our group consisted of four people, and we had not previously met each other. Still, before the conference, we bonded together, and I am proud of our team members. While preparing, we tried to understand the committee's topic: UNEA, which addresses protecting biodiversity and sustainability in the textile and fashion industry, and GA3, with child rights under the conflict and prevention of violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation. It was a difficult theme for me, but with the background guide, I began to understand. At the conference, I talked with people from various countries like Argentina, Switzerland, and the USA. As a delegate for the Comoros, I could share and express our policy and make resolutions to a more sustainable and better world. Although it was tough, honestly, joining the NMUN would be a fantastic opportunity for anyone. It would be best to join if you are interested in world issues or want to discuss them in English. (RS)

「模擬国連は十分な準備が必要な、参加者に多くを求める活動です。本学では、NMUNの模擬国連大会への参加は課外活動の位置づけであることもあって、有意義な経験を得るためには、参加学生に一層高い志と実力が備わっていなければなりません。この度は渡米を伴う活動だったため、海外渡航に耐えうる自己管理力も必要でした。模擬国連に果敢に取り組み、無事に全行程を乗り越えた学生を誇りに思います。今回の経験が将来の活躍に生きることを願います。」
