The Special Features of Our Teaching Style
1.Structured dissertation supervision
Under the guidance of first and second supervisors, students receive intensive individualized supervision. In the first year, the student is obliged to submit an outline of his/her research plan. In the second year, students must give a presentation at a research meeting. Following on from this, a preliminary draft of the dissertation is submitted and then examined. At each stage in the process the student is evaluated by his/her supervisory team.
2.Provision of diversified syllabi
The program offered by the School covers a diversified range of specialized research fields. At the same time, it provides opportunities for students to participate in classes on issues and themes that are common to different fields and to take classes in subjects related to their own, allowing students to become familiar with areas of study close to their own. Finally the School offers basic skills courses in areas such as languages and information processing.
3.A Flexible Study Program
Responding to the needs of mature students, the School has instituted a flexible study program of learning with classes held during the evenings as well as the daytime and on Saturdays. The School also offers intensive courses of study. Where appropriate, it is also possible to take courses offered by other graduate schools. Please note that while it is possible to make use of ITs to receive remote supervision, it is not possible to take a whole course by distance learning only.
4.A System of Accelerated Graduation
Our system of accelerated graduation enables students who already have an outstanding research portfolio to reduce the period of study required to complete doctoral coursework.
